Here Is The Answer On AstroVision CBS
Nov 13th, 2006 by Don Ray
This morning I went down to AstroVision to pay my bill. While I was there, I inquired about the change from an east cost station to a mountain time zone station. The General Manager, Alecia Santos, overheard my question and came out to talk to me.
She said that the US is undergoing major changes in conversion from analog to digital signal and with their last change the east coast signal was not strong enough to provide a good picture. Therefore to continue providing CBS they had to move to the Denver station. From what I understood the major networks are not going out of their way to make accessing them in Latin American countries easy.
I learned more about AstroVision from Aleica. She told me that AstroVision is an American company. She said the company was very aware that having good English broadcasts including CBS was important to the Americans living in Panama.
I appreciated Aleica taking time to visit with me and explain the situation. While she had heard me ask my question to the person that was serving me in Spanish, she spoke only to me in English and her English was very good.
Now at least I understand the problem they are facing and know they didn’t make the switch for any reason other than providing a good picture. I feel better. Thanks Alecia.

[...] I have noticed that I am getting a lot of pixilation on the channel 53 station (CBS) on AstroVision. I am noticing this more at night than in the daytime, but I don’t watch much daytime TV. Since AstroVision had to switch satellites and broadcast originator for this network, because the previous NY station had gone digital, the quality has gone down in my opinion on channel 53. See previous post. [...]
