Guest at Universidad Latina (An Old Dog – More Tricks)

Darío Quiroz asked if I would mind assisting him again with another of his English classes.
My last adventure was a blast and of course I was glad to help. This new class is also studying to become translators. I think Darío enjoys watching his students struggling to understand a Texan’s accent. I was actually very impressed with his students.
We spent part of the time with them asking me questions and me responding. This was to give them time to adjust to my voice prior to working on a translation exercise.
Following that, I spent some time talking about a subject that I am most familiar with (me) and each student took turns translating what I would say into Spanish for the rest of the class. My past experiences making presentations to Japanese visitors at EDS and having to pause for their translator to tell them what I said flashed through my mind.
I had a great time. It is always fun to get to talk to students who are really interested in learning and also want to know your perspectives of Panama as an outsider.
Here is a photo of the students and Professor Darío Quiroz.

[...] So let me reflect on the afternoon that I had. Let me say that I enjoyed my time. I always enjoy getting to talk to young people and see how the future generation is shaping up. That being said, I feel that the activity missed the mark as far as the guests were concerned. In all of the times I have spent with Darío Quiroz, I always knew what he expected of me. Part of that was because in Darío’s activities, I always had an active role and I made sure that I could fulfill his mission [...]
